Dr. Cathy Torrington Eaton is an assistant professor and associate program director in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas. As a certified speech-language pathologist since 2005, she has worked in various medical and education settings in the US and Europe treating patients with acquired and developmental communication disorders. Dr. Eaton currently teaches master’s students in neuroanatomy and neurophysiology, research methods, and neurogenic language disorders, though she has developed and instructed over 16 undergraduate and graduate courses throughout her career. Dr. Eaton’s primary research areas are in assessment and intervention of functional language in patients with neurological impairments specifically poststroke aphasia and primary progressive aphasia, clinical skills such as patient-centered goal writing, and interprofessional education.
She has authored over a dozen scientific manuscripts, one book chapter and one clinical textbook, and has presented at state, national and international conferences. She is an active member on a number of committees including Alamo Head Injury Association in San Antonio, Linking lnterprofessional Networks for Collaboration (LINC) at UT San Antonio Health Science Center, American Stroke Association Rehabilitation and Recovery Science committee, Aphasia Access Resource Sharing committee, and TruMerit’s International Speech-Language Pathology/Audiology Professional Standards committee.
