Our core services
Our core
services
For nearly fifty years, TruMerit has served global health systems and supported patient safety by validating the education, skills, and job-readiness of foreign-educated nurses and other healthcare workers seeking education or entry to practice in their country of choice. We understand that healthcare workers evolve throughout their professional journeys, and we support their right to make decisions that steer the trajectory of their careers in pursuit of growth and opportunity.
For example, they may seek to:
- Advance their skills, roles, responsibilities, and financial status.
- Further their development or education.
- Explore employment opportunities in a different state or region.
TruMerit offers a variety of services that meet their credential assessment needs throughout this journey. In turn, the authoritative bodies use the assessment data to make informed decisions about the professional status of the candidates. We support these authorities across health sectors in determining the eligibility of these candidates according to the respective standards for academic admission, immigration, licensure, or professional practice.
Why is this necessary?
Variability in standards for education, training, registration, licensure, and certification from one country to the next has historically presented a challenge to authorities needing to ensure that the workforce candidates who seek employment within their health systems have equivalent skills and experience to care for patients within their systems.
How we do it
Our core competencies lie in our ability to rigorously assess credentials on behalf of authoritative bodies that need our review to make informed decisions about a candidate.
We do this through three core capabilities:
Verification services
Verification can confirm the authenticity of a broad range of qualifications for the health worker, including:
- Academic records. Details of education, including confirmation of accreditation/approval of institution(s) attended and program curriculum (theoretical & clinical).
- Licensure. Any professional licensure/registration(s) by jurisdiction/registry body, corresponding issue/expiry dates, including encumbrances, restrictions, or revocations.
- English language proficiency. Language proficiency scores across reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
- Specialty certification. Confirmation of certification or details of education that support certification.
We provide credentials verification to support:
- Entry-to-practice and/or licensure applications for specific countries:
- Credentials Verification Service for New York State
Note: We verify credentials for all other U.S. states as part of our Credentials Evaluation Service—See below. - Credentials Verification Service for the Nursing Council of New Zealand
- Credentials Verification Service for Aruba
- Credentials Verification Service for New York State
What we deliver
TruMerit issues a detailed verification report that attests to our review of the applicant’s records and credentials as outlined above. At the verification level, we are verifying that these credentials/records are authentic in that they have come from the respective issuing sources and accurately reflect the candidate’s education and records. We are not evaluating the candidate’s program of study or knowledge and competencies, nor are we making any claims of comparability against a standard or attesting to the readiness of the candidate to pass a licensure exam or perform a job.
Evaluation services
Where verification focuses on authentication of credentials, evaluation entails the compiling of a report based on a detailed analysis of the education and professional credentials of the health worker for the purpose of determining eligibility for licensure or academic admission. Advisory in nature, these services provide a summative assessment through the issuance of a report. This report is prepared for an authority according to specific requirements and provides a statement of educational comparability assessed against a requisite nursing regulatory standard.
We provide evaluation services (which includes credentials verification) for individuals applying for professional licensure or admission to an institute of higher learning:
- Credentials Evaluation Service (Professional)
- Credentials Evaluation Service (Academic)
- Credentials Evaluation Service (Nursing Specialty)—For nurses educated outside of the U.S. who wish to apply for specialty certification with ANCC, AONL, NLN or BCEN.
What we deliver
TruMerit issues a detailed evaluation report that provides our comparability review and an impartial evaluation of a candidate’s education and training according to established standards.
Certification programs
Via our certification programs, we evaluate the health worker against a set of standards and issue a certificate/certification when they have met all program requirements. Determinative in nature, these services provide a summative assessment through the issuance of a certificate. In some instances, the only way to validate the knowledge of a health worker seeking career mobility or advancement is through certification, whereby a candidate demonstrates that knowledge by examination.
TruMerit currently offers certification services through these programs:
- VisaScreen® Visa Credentials Assessment
- Certified Global Nurse (CGN)—Our certification program and Qualifying Exam for global nurses seeking validation of their skills:
- For migration to the U.S. via our VisaScreen program.
OR - To demonstrate competency for current/prospective employers and support career advancement in their own countries.
- For migration to the U.S. via our VisaScreen program.
- Certified Global Nurse Consultant (CGNC)
- Global specialty certification—Certification programs for nurses and other health workers seeking a credential based on a global competency framework for career mobility and advancement.
